Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care
Enhance your knowledge of hospice palliative care with this introductory course appropriate for all roles.
Organizations collaborating with their local Palliative Care Clinical Coach, with support from their regional Ontario Health Team, may be eligible for sponsored funding to participate in one of the upcoming courses listed below. Please reach out to your local Coach for more information.
This introductory course is open to all health care providers and volunteers in Halton/Peel region who are interested in building knowledge and skills in hospice palliative care.
Cost: $40 (non – refundable after deadline)
Course Components
Following the completion of this program, the learner will:
- Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding and respect for the individuality of the person, family and team/caregivers
- Identify and understand issues associated with illness and bereavement (domains of issues)
- Effectively communicate with the person, family and team
- Recognize and report changes in any of the domains of issues associated with illness and bereavement
- Provide hospice palliative supportive care strategies
- Actively learn and develop personally and contribute as part of a team and organization
- Demonstrate sensitively to the impact of personal attitudes, behaviours and values on the illness experience of the person, family and team/caregivers
Program Requirements
To receive a Certificate of Completion, full participation is required:
- Attend all 3 Case-Based Learning virtual sessions with the option you selected. Note: These are live, interactive sessions – not webinars. Active participation is expected.
- Complete Self-Directed Readings and e-Learning Modules on the D2L Brightspace platform
- Participation in two Peer-to-Peer Exchanges
- Submit one Reflective Activity

Course Materials and Technology Requirements
Course readings and e-learning modules are online (D2L Brightspace Learning Environment). You’ll need access to a computer, tablet or smart phone with internet, microphone and camera. If this is a barrier, please let us know so we can help.
