Friendly Visiting Training Session

Friendly Visiting Training – Winter 2024

Join other Friendly Visitors at our Winter Training Session

Come join our Friendly Visiting Care Managers, along with fellow volunteers, on a Saturday morning in the Community Room of the Burlington Police Station. We promise not to take you away from your Saturday morning coffee. We will have coffee and a selection of yummy treats waiting for you! You can enjoy a relaxing morning while learning something new and interacting with people brought together with the same goal in mind, to support isolated, older adults in our community.
What are we offering?
Friendly Visiting Training for newly, on-boarded volunteers or experienced volunteers that would like a refresher.
Why are we doing it?
As clients’ needs have become more complex, we have developed more comprehensive training (in addition to the General Orientation session) to better prepare you for engaging with your clients.

Content to be covered:
  • Meet and Interact With Other Volunteers and Form New Connections with Your Peers!
  • Understand Prevalent Health Conditions Among Older Adults and How This Can Have a Potential Influence on Communication Dynamics During Your Visit.
  • Preparing for Client Visits: Expectations, Preparation Tips, Conversation Starters, and Recommended Activities.
  • Language Matters – i.e. What is Elderspeak?
  • Client and Volunteer Safety: What To Do In An Emergency.
When is it being held?
Sat. March 23 from 9:30 am-12 pm
Where?
It will be held in the Community Room at 3800 Constable Henshaw Blvd., Burlington Police Station
Free Parking
At the end of the session:
Receive an official Friendly Visiting Volunteer Training Certificate.
