Grief and Bereavement during COVID-19

All of a sudden we’ve all moved into a new house in a new country; where there is new etiquette, vocabulary, and habits to learn.  Where everything is different, but somehow the same.

But we recognize this Griefhouse –  whether a long time resident or one flung back for a visit triggered by recent events.   We are all wondering, when will we get out?  This house is shaped by loss, built from memories and echoing loneliness.  We wander thru the rooms wondering “How can I manage this too?”

This is COVID-19, and suddenly everyone is speaking your language; one of loss and wishes.  Suddenly everyone is doing what you’ve been struggling with for weeks; figuring out which family members will help with groceries or paperwork and which friend is OK with late night calls for companionship.  Wondering “Why do I have to do this alone?”

Before we explore this house, let’s pause and wait in the foyer just for a moment before we explore the rooms.   Let’s take it one room a time and breathe together as we acknowledge the losses.  How are we doing?  How much can I manage now?  Am I OK?  This spring we start with the basics, and the basics start with us breathing together in empathy.
