Bringing Joy Into The Home

Every week, hundreds of families across Halton Region wait far too long for the dementia support they need. Our Adult Day Programs (a.k.a our awesome Clubs!) provide compassionate dementia care, helping people live brighter, richer days, but with limited space and long waitlists, too many people are still left without help.

Caregivers like Oliver know this all too well. His wife Olivia has dementia, “We used to go out all the time, and then suddenly everything slowed down,” Oliver shares.

They are currently on the waitlist for Acclaim Health’s Soper Club in Oakville.

In the past, languishing on the waitlist left families with little to do but get through the time as best they could. But now, through Acclaim Health’s new Bring the Club Home program, the best and most exciting features of our Clubs are available right in their home.

Joy, a Community Recreation Assistant, regularly visits Olivia in their home, turning ordinary time into meaningful opportunities to help Olivia re-gain a sense of purpose and provide much-needed respite for Oliver.

“With Joy here, Olivia is more enthusiastic, we have a better outlook, ” shares Oliver. “Olivia is more active now, more positive.”

Together, Olivia and Joy do puzzles, dance, and spend time connecting, sparking smiles and filling days with friendship. Olivia says, “I’m happy and Joy knows when I am laughing, she knows she’s doing something right.”

For Oliver, those visits mean he can take a break, walk around the building, clear his head, and do a few things he enjoys all while knowing Olivia is in good hands.

That’s why Bring the Club Home was created. It’s designed specifically for the 700+ Halton residents waiting for dementia support – loved ones who are at risk of isolation and decline without the right services – and family caregivers who could really use extra support.

It’s so important for caregivers to take a break because they give so much of themselves. Rest helps caregivers refill their cup and restore their energy, protects their well-being, and allows them to continue showing up with patience, strength, and love.

Bring the Club Home brings connection, care, and companionship right to the home. With you on our team, we create more good days, lift spirits and bring more heart to people in our community who are still waiting.
